Wayne County Community Federal Credit Union Honors Four Local Graduates with Annual Scholarship Award

 

Orrville, Ohio  On May 18, 2022, members of Wayne County Community Federal Credit Union’s board of directors and senior management presented the credit union’s annual scholarship award to four 2022 graduates of local high schools: Safaria Brown, Lindsey Copeland, Luke Meech and Grace Sparks. Scholarships of $750 each are awarded every year to graduates who are pursuing college degrees beginning that same year; the winners are selected from submitted applications by a committee appointed by the credit union’s board of directors. Scholarships are granted based on the information supplied in the application as well as additional materials requested (school transcripts, etc.).

Safaria Brown is a 2022 graduate of Orrville High School and has been accepted at Kent State University where she will be majoring in Human Resource Management; her current professional goal is to work in HR management. Safaria’s school achievements include being a member of Women’s Concert Choir and Junior Prom Committee. Outside of school, Safaria has been employed by Orrville Save-A-Lot for several years receiving recognition multiple times for excellent job performance.

Lindsday Copeland

Lindsey Copeland is a 2022 graduate of Orrville High School and has been accepted at Ohio University where she will be majoring in Biology; her current professional goal is to complete her doctorate degree and become a professor of paleontology. Lindsey’s school achievements include being a member of the Orrville High School National Honor Society and being on the Honor Roll for each semester of high school. Lindsey was also Captain of her Orrville Tennis Team and has participated in Academic Challenge. Outside of school, Lindsey enjoys improving her community through community service and looking for opportunities to help others.



Luke Meech


Luke Meech is a 2022 graduate of Smithville High School and has been accepted at the University of Cincinnati where he will be majoring in Mechanical Engineering; his current professional goal is to become a mechanical engineer after graduation. Luke’s school achievements include several athletic honors in basketball and football, serving as President of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and President of Smithville High School National Honor Society, as well as participating in Student Council, Lead Team, and serving as Class Officer Vice President. Academically, Luke has been on the Honor Roll for each semester of high school, been recognized as Chemistry Student of the Year in 2021, and received the Stark State Presidential award in 2022. Outside of school, Luke has been working as a machinist with B3 Precision Machining while making time to volunteer with the Wayne County Community Youth Foundation, youth basketball and football camps and as a camera operator for his church.

Grace Sparks

Grace Sparks is a 2022 graduate of Norwayne High School and has been accepted at Youngstown State University where she will be majoring in Forensic Science; her current professional goal is to work for the FBI or CSI. Grace’s school achievements include several athletic honors in Track & Field for weight throw, shotput and discus, placing first in the 2021 WCAL for shotput, and winning State for weight throw. Outside of school, Grace has been employed with Ramseyer Farms, been active in her church Youth Group and volunteered in her church’s VBS program. Grace will continue her Track & Field career at YSU while pursuing her love for science.

Wayne County Community Federal Credit Union Honors Two Local Graduates with Annual Scholarship Award

Orrville, Ohio On May 20, 2021, members of Wayne County Community Federal Credit Union’s board of directors and senior management presented the credit union’s annual scholarship award to two 2021 graduates of local high schools: Halle Miller and Hailey Peters. For the protection of the recipients during the current COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting was held remotely via video conference. Two scholarships of $500 each are awarded every year to graduates who are pursuing college degrees beginning that same year; the winners are selected from submitted applications by a committee appointed by the credit union’s board of directors Scholarships are granted based on the information supplied in the application as well as additional materials requested (school transcripts, etc.).

The Winners

Halle Miller is a 2021 graduate of Norwayne High School and has been accepted at the University of Akron where she will be majoring in Business Administation; her current professional goal is to possibly work in an agricultural related business though she is keeping her options open. Halle’s achievements in school include being a member of the Norwayne High School National Honor Society, winning multiple "Student of the Year" awards, and being on the Honor Roll for each semester of high school. Halle has also been on multiple Dean's Lists including the University of Akron Wayne College and the University of Kent State. Other school activities include serving as President of the Aultman Ambassadors Club, being a Student Representative for the Norwayne Local Schools Health & Wellness Committee, serving as her high school's Class of 2021 Treasurer, and being a member of her Student Council. Outside of school Halle is, among other things, significantly involved in both 4-H and FFA where she has served in numerous capacities including as the Superintendent for the Wayne County Jr. Fair Sheep Committee as well as the Board Secretary for the Wayne County Junior Fair Board; she has also won the Excellence in 4-H Award for Wayne Co. 4-H as well as the JFB Entrepreneurship Award for Norwayne FFA.

Hailey Peters is a 2021 graduate of Orrville High School and she has been accepted at Kent State University where she will be majoring in Exercise Science and Pre-Physical Therapy. Her professional goal is to eventually achieve her doctorate in physical therapy and become a physical therapist. Her school achievements include being on the National Honor Society, winning “Student of the Month” multiple times, being on the Honor Roll throughout her time in high school, being an Orrville Majorette, and serving as Treasurer for the Health Occupations Students of America. She also won the highest score on the American History Standardized Test and was a Band Spirit Leader during her senior year. Outside of school Hailey has been a volunteer at the Ohio Vintage Truck Reunion as well as the Orrville Board of Education Office; she has also been involved in the Black Swamp Truck Club, the Northeast Ohio Truck Club, and the Buckeye Vintage Haulers Truck Club. Hailey was also a J-Star Twirler throughout high school.
